Along the Gibb River Rd and in the Heart of the Kimberley

After leaving Mitchell Falls we refuelled at Drysdale Station - had a beer and burger . Gary bumped into ' Broady' a fellow ' firie' he worked with at 15 Station. He was travelling with his wife and 2 little girls. It's a vast country but still a small world. After camping at Barnett River Gorge we planned to spend the day at Manning Gorge. It was a fair hike in and very hot. We had to pull ourselves across the first pool in a boat to keep our gear dry, then a 1 & 1/2 hour walk had us  dropping down over some big rock ledges at the bottom - but boy was it worth it. A large waterfall ran down the rock escarpment and water roared into the pool below. We swam right up underneath the waterfall. Amazing. We decided to try Mornington Wilderness camp for the next 2 days but because it is the WA long weekend they were full. They only allow minimal numbers. So we arranged to camp at a private station along the Mornington Wilderness Rd, by Moll gorge. Now I haven't yet mentioned that on the way to Mitchell Falls the exhaust mount runners broke , so Gary had to cut some old fencing wire to secure it in place. Then driving out of Barnett River Gorge the sump cover plate tore off. Then when we pulled up just after we turned off onto the Mornington Wilderness Rd Allison noticed something amiss at the rear of our car. Greg called Gary over - you wouldn't believe it the spare wheel and bracket had sheared off- gone. The rear wheel carrier has been on the patrol for many a year but it obviously decided to go its own way today. It was so unbelievable we all just cracked up laughing- if we didn't laugh you would cry! No one could believe we didn't see it depart! Gary tried to backtrack to see if he could see the spare wheel but no luck. Then as he pulled up there was something else was hanging under the car, Allison didn't have the heart to tell him and when I did he didn't believe me. It was some other thingyamyjig - but apparently non essential - so off we went again after taking the bit off to be reinstalled at a later date
